ROUND 14 Vs BLACKWOOD (29/07/17)

BLACKWOOD  8.10 (58)
ONKA VALLEY 6.9 (45)

Overall the boy’s effort against Blackwood was there, we didn’t convert our opportunities whereas they did and once again we had to deal with a 13 point loss. Blackwood are a very good side and have been for over 5 years now, and in reality, we don’t have the overall experience they do, which really matters when it is on the line. Two games versus Blackwood for two 13 points losses show that we are competitive, but in both games, we haven’t been able to convert our opportunities that top sides do. Blackwood haven’t been defeated all year, so it was a good effort, but disappointing not to get one win out of those two games.

We bought in two players in Fanning and Prosser who both performed well and showed signs for the future, while the efforts of local star players in Sinnott, Collins and Schoell were again encouraging for the future. O’Brien was good as per usual, while Mitchell played his best game of the season in a different role. As a 21 I couldn’t fault the desire of the boys, but in the end Blackwood were too good and too experienced overall.

Next week we face Uraidla, which will be hurting from their recent losses to us, they are a good side sitting firmly in the Top 3, so we will need to be at our best to get the result. The group of boys continue to work hard and I know they will be looking to play some good footy and record that much needed win.

Congrats to the B Grade on their Courier Cup success, they are travelling very nicely at the moment and look to have a great chance this season, Congrats to Matt and the boys. The Under 17’s played a great game against Blackwood and certainly showed if they keep that desire up then they can certainly knock off both Hahndorf and Blackwood in the finals.

It’s plain to see our A Grade is not where we want it to be at this time of the season, a mixture of injuries, poor form and our young group has meant we have let go 3 to 4 wins that would have been so crucial at this time of the season. The boys are trying their hardest, so please don’t ever doubt that, the group is the youngest in the League and it has taken longer for the team to learn the habits of winning sides that myself, the committee, our supporters and the boys themselves would have liked. Please keep supporting them because the group has the ability over the next few games and years to reach the level we all expect.

Best Players: Mitchell, O’Brien, Collins, Sinnott, Schoell, Hochuli

Injuries: Hausler (Season), Adcock (Season), Duck (Back-Season), Fenney (Season), Woolford (TBC), Tanner (2 weeks).
